A board member who has actually done it
Non-executive and advisory roles for digital, media, PR and marketing businesses.
I built two agencies and sold both. I know what the founder is not telling the board, because I have been the founder not telling the board. That is the difference between a non-executive director who has run the thing and one who has only ever advised on it.
What I bring to a board
- Operator judgement. I have grown an agency to a million-pound turnover and fifty staff, and taken two businesses through to exit. I have made the mistakes already.
- A route to exit. If the plan is to sell, I know how the sale actually works, what a buyer is really pricing, and how to have the business ready before the conversation starts. I wrote a book on it.
- Digital PR and reputation. Growth, visibility and how the company and its founders are understood by search engines and AI is a large part of what I do day to day.
- A network. Two decades of agencies, media, investors and buyers, used where it moves the company forward.
How I work with boards
Usually a formal non-executive seat with a regular commitment, sometimes a lighter advisory arrangement. Either way I turn up prepared, say the difficult thing when it needs saying, and back the executive team the rest of the time.
I take on a small number of these deliberately, so each one gets real attention.
